This is a proper treat for fans of this band, and if you’re not a fan, then I feel you will be once you’ve checked them out after reading my review. Going strong for 10 years now, Sons of Liberty have released a CD only 6 track collection of recent hits plus 2 previously unreleased songs thanks to the talented bunch recording more songs than they could fit on their previous album “The Detail is in The Devil”.
As always, this review contains wild guesses regarding instruments, so if I’m wrong, feel free to educate me.
Feels like we come flying straight out of the blocks with first track “Time To Fly”. This is a powerhouse of a track which drop kicks you (in a good way) straight into this collection of songs. I’m part of the double bass pedal appreciation club, so that hits the spot.
After the explosive energy of the first track, we are treated to a slower, deep and meaningful track in “Turn This Tide”. It’s worth taking the time to really listen to the lyrics and I love the way the vocals sound; you can feel the passion and they’re being sung straight from the heart.
We’re then dropped straight into the opening riff of an anthemic, sing along instant classic in “Light The Fuse”. On the first listen of this, I felt like I wanted to be singing along at a gig. The chorus on this is banging, and then the bridge almost teases you with the way it builds. Can’t help but have a little headbang/bop (pick your fave) to this one. It has a fun ending too.
Gotta love a party track. I had to look up what the title, “Tertulia Time” actually means – I’ll let you go down that rabbit hole of internet search results yourself (why not have a drink whilst you’re at it, be a bit rude not to with this track playing), but it sounds like something I’d love to go to. The song has a great rhythm and some fun lyrics. Throw a party, put it on. Invite me. Cowbell alert! Can’t go wrong with a cowbell, and it instantly makes a song cool, in my personal opinion. This track, “This Town”, is very cool, as well as being very catchy. There’s also a beautiful riff in the bridge. It exudes swagger and it fills the speakers. You’ll want to put this one on loud.
Speaking of swagger, this collection of tracks ends on an absolute banger. “Full Force Five” is definitely a song that hits you with full force; the energy that comes across perfectly matches the hurricane references in the lyrics. Get your rock pout on, your power stance ready, and your air guitar in position. This collection of tracks absolutely ticks all of the rock ‘n’ roll boxes, and you feel a little bit cooler, just for having listened to it.
