South Coast four-piece Mad Simple has had a positive first full year together in 2022 with a headline slot at Chaplin’s in Boscombe; gigs at The Four Horsemen in Bournemouth, a support slot at the prestigious Joiners in Southampton and an appearance at Teddy Rocks Festival. In 2023 their plan is to step up a gear and start releasing their own original music. The band have been in the “Ranch Production House Studio” in Southampton and working with producer Kurt Fagan on a couple of tracks for release this year. The first of these is their debut single “Playng The Fool”, which is released on the 20th January.

Front Man Craig explains “It’s a song that came naturally during a jam/writing session. The music, the beat and the words came out together in sync and has developed to be a set favourite ever since. We hope that when people listen to this song, they can relate. It’s about taking control of life, whether you have been let down by someone or a system that is in place, but ultimately…. taking the power back for yourself”.

The band have already put out a demo version and a live version (at Teddy Rocks) of the track on their Youtube channel, and you can hear the remarkable transformation that the track has undertaken in the studio since its inception. It’s an upbeat track with an infectious chorus that has a musical and lyrical hook that grabs you. The song contains contagious rhythms, coupled with some creative guitars and Craig’s impressive vocals.

Within the track I hear influences from The Smiths one minute and the next I hear some Iron Maiden, which I’m sure is just a coincidence. It’s great to hear the creative flair of these four guys coming together finally in the studio, with a track that creates a benchmark for their further material to come.
