After releasing their debut EP and album in 2022, Crimson Creatures set about rehearsing their songs and recruiting a drummer for live performances. Using their spare time to work on demos for a follow-up album, they concentrated on one particular extended piece; which had been simmering on the back burner for several months already. The nine-part song focuses on a woman in an unspecified state of catatonia and follows her internal journey through traumatic life events. In a departure from the previous format, the band uses a series of song fragments to convey each stage of the journey. Each fragment is linked to the next with characters from the woman’s life.

Crimson Creatures

Crimson Creatures have expanded on their sonic palette for this more theatrical and ambitious release and Fragments is unlike anything that you have heard before. Think of Neil Innes of the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band with a scattering of Monty Python, Pink Floyd and a whole heap of other Progressive Rock influences. Creator Matthew has a whole host of talents in many different fields, along with other prolific band and solo projects. His creative musical enthusiasm and drive should be bottled and sold to those less inspired. As a music teacher Matthew can pass his inspirational wisdom on to his students. Fragments takes you on a musical journey of many different textures and sounds that jostle for your attention, pushing at your senses in all directions. The atmospheric Ebow-fed guitar, combined with the sweepingly haunting keys, bursts of recorder, and numerous sound effects all add to the complete uniqueness of this distinctive creation.
