Composer, Producer, Multi-Instrumentalist and member of new Bournemouth band “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Better”, James Longcake or just Jamie to his mates has a new solo single out. The song with the rather unusual title of “Floradix” takes influences from heavy Alternative Metal and Grunge with bands like Deftones/Code Orange/Nirvana being sighted as having a particular impact on this creation. The track was virtually a one man job with James taking on the majority of the writing, production and mixing duties; with some further writing assistance from David Longcake, with additional vocals from fellow band member Joe Papworth and the track was mastered by Toby Campen.
Jamie explains “Floradix is a song about being tired of being tired. It’s a song about being trapped in a cycle of doom scrolling, 24/7 news channels and the advent of living life behind screens. I wrote this song reflecting on times where I lived away from friends and family at the end of the pandemic and felt an acute social isolation that I hadn’t yet experienced. Thankfully, things have got a lot better since then”
The track starts with some brooding vocals; along with some gentle guitar strumming, before the bass drum joins and the power of the tune is truly delivered. This Post/Grunge track features plenty of layers with the two vocalists combining brilliantly together, along with a couple of well executed guitar solo’s too.
The track is the first offering from James’s EP “Fear of a Bleak Planet” which will be released later in the year. With a impressive CV and a vast amount of experience in making music, this artist clearly has a lot to give. Just dive into his back catalogue over at his Bandcamp for an eclectic mix of his offerings.
