Returning to the fold after his recent Original Music Awards award nomination, South Coast musician Jack Spooner aka “Nory-J” is back with a new single “Fake Fruit”, a Track that features some spot on production by Bristol studio engineer Callum Wotherspoon. The track was self-recorded with Jack playing on Bass, Guitars, Vocals, Synths and recently recruited Soulhole drummer Nathan Wallington providing percussion, which were recorded with Matt Black at the Hangover Hill Studio in Wimborne.

Jack explains “Fake Fruit explores my experiences with discomfort, both mentally and physically. The word “comfort” was replaced with the word “fruit” in the record, with the aim to create an upbeat Dream/Pop number that is both dreamy and comforting (like Beabadoobee, Men I Trust and Dayglow), as well as creating a sense of psychedelia and unease. With my life expectancy less than other 24 year olds, I’ve come to terms with feeling numb sometimes and that it’s important to keep grounded with what’s real; what’s happening in the moment, and what’s important to me. Hence the lyrics surrounding looking into someone special’s eyes to stay focused and stable”.

You cannot ever fault Jack for standing still. Looking back at his other recent releases “Apology”, “Dreary Boy” and “Irrelevant Benevolent” you can see there is an enthusiastic desire to pursue the perfect sound with lots of experimentation with different vocal styles, sound patterns and textures. “Fake Fruit” continues the creative momentum with a track that takes inspiration from Jack living with the life-limiting chronic auto-immune condition, a shadow that hangs over his daily life. Though he positively carries on making every minute worthwhile, the lyrics focus around his feelings in a optimistic non-morbid way. The instrumentation takes on a whole new feel from the other tracks with fresh Summery feelgood vibes. The constant presence of the guitar is complemented with utopian synthesizer patterns and hypnotic rhythms, coupled with the unique appeasing vocal delivery.

“Fake Fruit” is out now.
