“In The Hands of the King” is the title of the recently released four track EP from Dorset-based Rockers “Kingsfoil” who have been in the studio with local legend and independent producer Jack Grace, working together on these new recordings. Kingsfoil were formed in 2019 by singer/songwriter Tim Somerfield, who after performing solo relentlessly since 2012 wanted to bring his musical creations to the full band experience. Upon recruiting Punk band “Disorder” drummer, Wrestler and local promoting legend Dan “Sully” Sullivan, along with bassist Ant Culshaw the band was completed by the inclusion of popular local musician and all round nice guy Mikey Ball on guitar and backing vocals.

The songs are unapologetically Alt/Rock featuring a wide array of influences that are brought from all of the band’s members. Tim says “In The Hands of the King” was forged in local underground music venues; refined in the dark, dingey local practice rooms and polished by four guys with their roots firmly planted in the Punk, Metal, New Wave and Alt/Rock scene”.

The EP opens with “Physical”, a tune that has a pulsating heartbeat of old school Classic Rock with a glorious rebellious energy. Tim’s unique-sounding powerful, harmonious vocals are backed with some prime instrumentation of encompassing rhythms and melodic guitars. It’s a tune that just builds and builds leaving the listener wanting more. The momentum continues with “Warriors”, a no-nonsense Rock anthem and after hearing this tune played live, it’s a force to be reckoned with. The band fulfil the creative parts with towering tune. With Tim’s positively smouldering vocals, coupled with some impressive melodic guitar work and great vocal harmonization, you’d be pushed to find a better Rock tune from anywhere locally.

“Whips and Chains” is a different kettle of fish altogether with a injection of brooding Funk basslines, along with anthemic guitars and Tim’s ever present, emotive vocal delivery. The final track “Find Your Way” shows the quartet teasing us with a slowly building, single guitar intro and Tim singing over limited instrumentation, before the whole band lets rip and powers the song with a huge crescendo. All the Rock n’ Roll rudiments are brought into play to deliver another huge tune full of all the band members creative abilities.

Kingsfoil deliver an EP of pure Rock indulgence and in reality four tracks are not nearly enough once you get to the end. You put them on repeat and enjoy them all over again, noticing more intricacies that you missed the first time around. These four seasoned musicians have come together in a dingey practice room with a sprinkling of Jack Grace productive magic and come up with something quite special.
