New Zealand Indie Revivalists “Search For Yeti” are back with single number three from their forthcoming album Dark So Soon, the single however is very much full of light. “Fear of Drowning”, a folk-influenced jangly number with lots of different acoustic instruments but with synths thrown in for good measure. Full of yearning – it’s a meditation on life’s uncertainties and anxieties, and ultimately finding strength in another.
In addition to the new single, the trio are announcing the release date of their debut album titled “Dark So Soon”, which will be released on November 29th 2024 on vinyl, CD and on all streaming platforms. The album has been produced by the legendary Toby Lloyd at Tiny Triumph Recordings and will include all 3 singles they have released to date (Red, What You Mean To Me, and Fear of Drowning).
“Fear of Drowning” has something in its guitars and vocal that reminds me of the band James, if fronted by Grant Nicholas of Feeder. The soft sunny vibe it evokes just breezes along with a sense of finding new destinations on lazy Summer days, to see what one can find be it relaxation or otherwise. Gentle drum tapping paired with woozy guitar picking and subtle chord stretching are complimented by warm and gentle vocals throughout. The ending fades to almost nothing, just leaving one begging for more.
