Brudenell Social Club, Leeds

Tonight I’m at the much celebrated Brudenell Social Club in Leeds, a proper grass roots music venue and a usual stop on the way for many bands touring the UK. This evening our entertainment are two rock band’s both coming from a different background of musical influences and are quite unique in their own very individual ways. First up from just down the M1 in Derby are psychedelic rockers These Wicked Rivers.

On this very small space, on the stage, which is set up behind for KK gear, these 5 musicians who formed in 2014, with an unique blues infused modern rock sound. With their own flower bouquets on the stage front and a lampshade along with Drums, keyboard, 2 guitars and bass. The 5 brought an enchanted start to the evening.

On a bigger sized stage, the lead guitarist Arran could have moved to show us his his full potential. John’s vocals, Dan’s drumming, along with Dale and Rich bought a unique, with an slight US sounding twang, and a very enjoyable show .. a great promotion for the new album “Force Of Nature” following in the footsteps of the debut record “Eden”. I would have loved to have seen these guys at the Stone Dead Festival earlier this year, they must have rocked that just as King King did the year before. A band to definitely give a listen to and go see live again in the near future.

After a quick stage changeover it time for Scottish headliners King King to entertain us. On the Stage with a great sound, queue Dan taking a bow, and lighting that didn’t blind the audience. The band from Glasgow, but formed in Lincolnshire in 2008, explode into the set and power into their first number to great cheers from an audience.

With their distinctive rock sound, with some sweet blue rocks thrown in, (I might add, for good measure), of the band that can expertly play powerfully yet quietly at times but perfectly keeping the audience entranced, a feat usually hard to accomplish. With tracks from all the albums being played and a fantastic new track from their upcoming new album, with the new drummer Jon keeping the beat expertly, Zander on bass along with some amazing stomps, the amazing maestro of the keys Johnny and the rock and blues strings of brothers Stevie, and front man, Alan Nimmo whose distinctive voice carries the distinctive King King sound. With a dedication to the late Matthew Long of Catfish amongst others, tonight was an incredible show. One band to see without fail if you can. Not to be missed! What a evening’s entertainment.
