The Ben Poore Project, hailing from Southampton, England is a trio of talented musicians who bring a unique blend of Rock, Americana, Country, and Folk to their music. Lead vocalist; songwriter and guitarist Ben Poore, along with bassist Dan HM and drummer Matt Axx have been playing together for years, honing their craft in covers bands before venturing into original music.

Drawing inspiration from artists like Frank Turner, Jason Isbell, and Bob Dylan, the band have already released two singles: “Better Days” and “Level Up”. This month sees the release of a third track entitled “One For Sorrow” with a distinct Halloween atmosphere. The track was recorded in Wimborne, Dorset with the able assistance of Matt Black at Hangover Hill Studios.

The track is a haunting and introspective track that delves into themes of redemption and consequences. The song has been inspired by dark Folk influences and the eerie allure of all things Halloween. The autumnal season that is the setting for all hallow eve has been the backdrop for many a horror movie. With the reduced daylight hours, colder temperatures and the leaves cascading from the trees setting the atmospheric scene; the track gains its lyrics and inspiration from the magpie rhyme of the same name and according to an old superstition, the number of magpies seen tells if one will have bad or good luck. (I still to this day salute, if I see a single Magpie)!

The trio provide some skiffle-style rhythms; coupled with some acoustic guitar and some well put together, layered vocals to deliver a catchy tune that has a dark sinister edge, giving this old rhyme a much needed modern makeover. This is just the tip of the iceberg of what there guys have to offer and in the coming months I expect to see a lot more great content, that will be well worth seeking out. Next time you see a magpie hopping on your lawn, give him my best please.
