Anglo New Zealanders Search for Yeti are back with their sophomore follow-up to debut single “Red”. It’s in stark contrast to its predecessor which sees the band reach into their inner Indie selves to create this absolute banger. Opening with a scratchy chord progression it soon makes way for a classic Indie vocal offering evoking memories of gigs the length and breadth of the UK circa ’89-91′. With a working title not uncannily like a certain Teenage Fanclub hit back in the day, one wonders if indeed inspiration was taken?
However, it is more in the lightning Seeds ballpark, notably in the vocal with its bouncy, flouncy beat evoking thoughts of summer days in a park; a football, a few tinnies and the evening sun going down. The chorus is truly infectious; the bass just chugs along gently in time with the simple drumming, ably assisted by precise guitar chimes at all the right intervals. Add to that the carefully inserted cymbal bashing and one is transported right back in time to the early shoots of Britpop. “Can You Hear Me” they sing – yes we can!! BBC Radio 6 seriously need to get hold of this song – contender for single of the year and we’re only in March!! Search For Yeti? Consider yourselves found lads!!
Lyrics
Can I try to open your mind?
Then you’ll see what you mean to me
No superpowers or lots of hours
For you to see what you mean to me
Can you hear me?
Can you hear me?
Like cats in shows with silly bows
Is it hard to see what you mean to me?
Can you hear me?
Can you hear me, now?
Can you feel it in the air?
Do you know that someone cares?
It seems you’re on a hook
When your life is a book that you have
Read before so what’s the point
Of thinking something more?
But let me change your view about what you
Can do when you give that last page a turn
These things take time like grocery lines
So wait and see what you mean to me
And when you’ll know is when it shows
Then you’ll be what you mean to me
Can you hear me?
Can you hear me, now?
Can you feel it in the air?
Do you know that someone cares?
It seems you’re on a hook
When your life is a book that you have
Read before so what’s the point
Of thinking something more?
But let me change your view about what you
Can do when you give that last page a turn
‘Cause there’s so much to learn
Like waking up and seeing someone there
So how about it now
The carousel can go another round
If you want it to
Is this the way your bread is buttered?
This is talk but are you keen
To let me show you what I really mean
Search For Yeti are
