Dorset-based troubadour Lloyd McGuigan announces his home-grown Americana, 2nd single release “Homecoming”. The track harnesses those emotive feelings of returning to your home after being away for years. Lloyd spent 6 years in New Zealand and the song is dedicated to all the feelings he had when he arrived back on home soil. Lloyd explains “The track blends elements of Americana AND Country with the use of acoustic guitar, lap steel and harmonica with my aim at creating a soulful authentic sound”.
Imagine sitting on a porch in a traditional barn-style American house; overlooking a typical country landscape, while the late evening sun is just setting on a late Summer’s day. Our subject is sitting on an old rocking chair with a battered but functional acoustic guitar in his hands and a harmonica in the top pocket of his checked flannel shirt. Now with the scene set, let’s get to the very rudiments of this song.
“Homecoming” does what a song should do; it creates a vibe and an atmosphere. Lloyd’s soothing vocal provides some really moving lyrics with some impressive well put together instrumentation. The lyrics are deep and meaningful with plenty of personal, expressive moments that listeners can relate to. The lap steel and the hauntingly atmospheric harmonica really add to the nature of the song’s Roots-style leaning. There are clearly influences from American songwriting heroes Bob Dylan and Neil Young; however, like his first single “My Father’s Words” Lloyd brings his own unique stylings to the creativity of this gem of a track.
“Homecoming” is out on the 20th of April and is available on all major streaming platforms. Lloyd will be embarking on a UK tour throughout the Spring and Summer; the tour is called “Wheels Up”, check out Lloyd’s website for the details of all the dates.
