“Sunday Lovin” is a 4 track collection of songs narrating the topsy turvy changes of emotions experienced in a new romance. Detailing the light-hearted and fun moments to the heartbreaking and gutting emotions of a breakup, The Too Late have showcased their musicality along with some stellar and truly relatable songwriting. Like a mini-album, and showing a real statement of intent, the duo of Ryan and Connor from Glasgow have brought together 4 tracks that perfectly sum up the highs and lows of a new relationship and all of the feelings in between. Bringing to life the rollercoaster of emotions experienced within a new relationship.
The 4 song EP begins on with a toe-tapping, infectious summer track “Intertwined” takes you back to remembering the start of the relationship, that exciting summer romance. With a smooth vocal arrangement complemented by a groovy baseline, this catchy feel good sing-along track is perfect for a summer’s drive, windows down, and music blaring.
The EP continues on a high note with the upbeat, anthemic self-titled track “Sunday Lovin”. Narrating the journey of struggling with being in a non-committal relationship, “Sunday Lovin” starts with references to all kinds of girls before finding the one you fall for. Initially, no feelings, wanting to hang out together when hungover on a Sunday ( giving credence to the title) , but things become harder the more time goes on. Lyrics such as “ Go out be free but leave your Sunday Lovin for me” highlight wanting the love interest to be single and enjoy herself but wanting her to be exclusive when it comes to those Sunday days spent together.
Following on from the feelings of “Sunday Lovin”, the penultimate single of the collection and the band’s debut single “One Hit Love”. This press-released single brings a high tempo with a mixture of a dance style beat, a pop music hit and rock elements. Spanning several genres, the duo truly highlighted their eclectic taste. This track represents the feelings of getting to that next stage of a relationship, wanting to get more serious than only having “Sunday Lovin”.
As quickly as a relationship can end, the previously released heartbreaking single “Psychological Warfare” brings this EP to a close. Showcasing the ability to bring the tempo right back down within an instant, this “hear a pin drop” track narrates the battle inside your head, fearing you aren’t good enough and knowing your are nearing the end of a relationship. Once again highlighting the duo’s songwriting ability, the track can take on a second meaning of losing a loved one and the heartbreak felt. Striking a chord with listeners, this EP looks set to propel The Too Late into the limelight.
