Klubber Lang have just released their double A-sided single “There There” & “Not My Day”. “There There” is a fabulous chunky slab of music with an undeniable groove while “Not My Day” blasts out a raw; punky feel, and both tracks should shoulder the band’s speedy rise through the ranks and should see themselves added to UK and Irish radio playlists. They are a band from Dublin formed by Revelino guitarist Ciaran Tallon, ex-(SIC); Ciaran McGoldrick on Vocals/Bass along with ex-Mexican Pets Fin O’Leary on drums and producer Ronan McHugh on keyboards/production. Ronan had previously worked with all the members before on the various projects they had in their other bands.
There is no denying the bands pedigree; (SIC) was in a band featuring original Belfast son Ricky Warwick who went on to famously front The Almighty, Thin Lizzy and the Black Star Riders. Ronan is employed by stadium Rockers Def Leppard as a studio and live engineer. With these credentials, the tracks have got to be pretty impressive right? Well ‘There There’ starts off well enough with some driving bass and an infectious rolling guitar riff, before Ciaran’s punky attitude-filled vocals kick in. It takes a few listens, but it easily gets under your skin. ‘Not My Day’ is a much darker offering with a real alternative leaning; with substantial rhythms coupled with effect-fed guitars, with Ciaran’s vocals reminding me of The Fall’s Mark E Smith with his screams, shouts and angst-filled vocals. It’s certainly a worthwhile introduction from this Irish quartet who have used their combined influences to create a unique, somewhat alternative sound./
