Yard Of Blondes started out originally as a French duet who relocated to the USA in 2010, where Vincent & Fanny went out to California desert to start a new life. Then, after recruiting Burak (Guitar) and Forrest (Drums) they have started to become a new force on the alternative American Rock scene. With their raw energy and selective influences it’s difficult not to be reminded of bands such as Sonic Youth, The Pixies and The Smashing Pumpkins. In April 2020 they successfully signed with the two international labels Die Laughing Records from California and Golden Robot Records from Australia. They have just released a new single “Do You Need More”?, which is a small aperitif from the band’s soon to be released debut album Feed The Moon. It has been put together with help from Billy Graziadei (from Biohazard) who produced the album, Mike Patterson (Nine Inch Nails, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Beck) who took care of the mix and Maor Applebaum (Faith No More) who mastered the album.
The new track finds the band in fine form with a sludgey/grungey guitar sound and ever-present powerful rhythms that pack a consistent punch. They use all the influences from their favourite bands and mould them into something original, with plenty of subtle familiarities. The dark edgy vocals of Vincent and Fanny twist around each other, weaving their menacing way amongst the creative instrumentation. The demanding lyrics pummel your ears with infectious choruses and melodies that draw you in. Yard of Blondes seem to have found a wondrous creative vein that is a very welcome addition to the alternative rock genre. With their debut album due out in February 2021, there is certainly plenty of pedigree in it to make it worth seeking out.
