Dingwalls, Camden, London
Tonight 80’s legends A Flock of Seagulls are in London Town at the Dingwalls as part of the UK Inflight 6 date tour. They were formed in Liverpool in 1980 using their new wave Synth-pop sounds to storm the UK charts with hit singles ìI Ran (So Far Away) and “Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)”. The band also won prestigious Grammy Award in 1983 for their instrumental “D.N.A” a tune from their debut album. Tonight’s support comes from Knight$ an act that is orchestrated by south of England based musician James Knights.
Having seen James Knights in his previous act Scarlet Soho several times several years ago, I was looking forward to seeing his latest project entitled Knight$ and what a treat it was. The band comprise of 2 female keyboard players with vocalist James upfront. We then had 30 minutes of cheesy catchy 80’s flavoured synth-pop anthems delivered by the charismatic and engaging frontman. Within a song or two Knight$ had the crowd singing and interacting. I must see them again for a repeated “feel good” experience.
Headliners A Flock of Seagulls took no time in getting the sold-out Dingwalls rocking. Vocalist, keyboard player and song-writer Mike Score may be the only remaining remember but what a legacy he has. A truly fantastic show followed which mixed old AFoS classics with more recent songs which maintained their high standard. Mike Score may be lacking his infamous hairstyle these, but AFOS songs are timeless and deserve their place in music history – you can see where The Killers got most of their ideas from.
