on January 23rd, 2018 at 21:09The Hilda Coles Learning Centre, Priest’s House Museum, Wimborne Minster
An evening of live music and visuals with Ed Dowie, Hello Monkey!! and Mosaicist brought to you by Wimborne’s very own Town Crier Chris Brown.
ED DOWIE Ed started making music in the late 1990s with Brothers in Sound, who released three EPs and an album with Regal Recordings and BMG. He then spent several years composing music for short films and theatre projects, including The Paper Cinema before embarking on a solo career in 2012. He released 2 EPs (in 2012 and 2014) before joining the ranks of Lost Map Records, who released his debut album, The Uncle Sold in January 2017. His music has regularly appeared on BBC6 Music and BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction, which included The Uncle Sold in their Top 12 albums of 2017.
And here are a few quotes:
“affirms the talent and ability of this accomplished, bold and starry-eyed visionary” – The Quietus
“absolutely extraordinary, atmospheric, surprising, unexpected” – Lauren Laverne, BBC6 Music
“beautiful and haunting” – Tom Ravenscroft, BBC6 Music
HELLO MONKEY!! Back on stage after over 30 years, one man and a mic, who growing up in Belfast and saved from religious bigotry by punk and fellow real music lovers who just wanted to pogo at The Harp and The Pound and not spend evenings throwing petrol bombs. Always involved in music, forming and playing in bands from 1977 onwards, sessions on Radio 1 in the early eighties, left for London and burning out in the NHS. Always listening to new music and still getting excited and inspired by new sounds. Over past few years, got back into playing and recording for own enjoyment and sanity, others liked it, Hello Monkey !!!
MOSAICIST makes experimental electronica out of “found” sounds, broken objects and other rejectamenta. A regular contributor to Dorset’s experimental music scene, recent performances have included improvisations with plastic objects on Bournemouth beach and a collaboration with the Dead Rat Orchestra involving a hedge.
This enigmatic and highly original evening will take place in the stunning oak framed Hilda Coles Learning Room at the Priest’s House Museum in Wimborne. Entrance is at the rear of the Museum adjacent to the Library in Eastbrook Way.
Wine, beer & soft drinks will be on sale.
