Mr Kyps, Poole
After a short hiatus Disco’s Out (Murders In) return to the live stage with a gig at Mr Kyp’s in Poole supporting the “Kast Off Kinks”.
The band have been a huge part of the local music scene since forming in 2008, performing at a host of events including major festivals such as Larmer Tree and Blissfields. They are famous for the zany fancy dress outfits and crazy unique performances.
In 2010 they reached the final of the Dorset Music Awards giving a stunning and now legendary performance. They are more of a community than just a band; as in addition the nucleus of their members are also part of many other local projects including El Bosco, Escapefrom’98, Powdered Cows, Head Of A Cuban Trojan, Citizen Perez, Hope & The New Flower Generation and many more, giving some additional great entertainment to Dorset’s thriving music scene.
Tonight the band are a six piece and arrive onstage opening with the catchy brass-lead number “The Kids Aren’t Alright” which sets the pace nicely. It is very hard to pigeonhole their sound as their is nothing quite like them out there performing today. They have a three piece brass section in the form of Martin (trumpet/trombone), Edmund (trumpet) and Lyndsey (saxophone) who really give the band their energy and style. As well as the brass there is Lefty Lee (Bass), Tubbs (Drums) and the ever smiling front man Steve Perry on guitar. Their style is a fusion of many influences coming from a whole host of directions, making for one really distinctive sound.
Tonight they perform some fresh material which takes the band on a slightly different journey than previously. The new songs arrive in the form of “I Can See Everything”, “So The Story Goes” and possibly the best of the bunch “Watch Me Rise”. Usually DOMI are big on audience participation, but while the new songs were being played the audience are patient and a little quiet. This soon changes when the familiar sound of “Blow Your Mind” is belted out with a mass of injected energy, which gets large parts of the audience dancing and singing along. The momentum further continues with the utterly infectious “Stuck in the middle” and “Back To The Start” which gives the audience a view of DOMI in fine form as many fans know and love. The band leave the stage after a fantastic set to some noisy appreciative applause from the seemingly delighted Mr Kyps crowd.
