The Sporadics are a four piece band who are based on the South coast of England and hail from the towns of Bournemouth and Southampton. Their ska/punk style and been delighting audiences this summer at many festivals including the Strummerville in Gosport, Endorset In Dorset Festival, Punk by the Sea in Portsmouth and the band also supported the mighty punk legends UK Subs at Champions in July. Despite their recent hectic schedule the band have found time to release their debut album ‘Hear It Is’.
The album tackles lots valid of political issues within its lyrical content and it certainly shows that the writer has a bee in his bovver boots about what is going on around us, gathering from some great source material which makes for some interesting varied songs. The songs such as “He Said She Said”, “Truth & Rights”, and “DSP” cannot fail to make you move your feet, the infectious ska style guitar coupled with some essential dub style bass lines really do hit the mark showing influences from both the Two Tone and punk scene from the late seventies.
The genre busting “Hard Times” contains some impressive heavy metal style guitar along with the bands familiar ska/punk sound to bring the listener quite a remarkable song that takes the listener on a journey of sound reaching deep into many different styles. The album is a great introduction to this band that can regularly be seen playing live in and around the south coast with their live performance capturing the nostalgia of great bands gone by as well as offering some new original twists and turns.
